-
Consistent Groundstrokes
Players should be able to consistently rally from the baseline with both forehand and backhand shots, demonstrating control and depth to keep opponents on the defensive.
-
Dinking Proficiency
Successful intermediate players excel at soft shots (dinks) near the net, maintaining patience and precision while setting up offensive opportunities.
-
Effective Serve and Return
A solid, reliable serve and the ability to return serves with variety (deep, short, or angled) is essential to gain an advantage early in the point.
-
Court Awareness and Positioning
Intermediate players understand the importance of positioning themselves well, transitioning between the baseline and the net, and covering both sides of the court effectively.
-
Shot Selection and Placement
Players can identify and exploit weaknesses in their opponents’ positioning, selecting the right shots (such as drop shots, drives, or lobs) to create openings.
-
Teamwork and Communication
In doubles, players must work in tandem, effectively communicating with their partner, covering the court together, and anticipating each other’s movements.
-
Strategic Net Play
Mastery of volleying and controlling the non-volley zone (kitchen) is key, with intermediate players using quick reflexes and anticipation to put pressure on opponents at the net.
