Welcome to the Bolton Recreational Sports Club’s Intermediate Spiking Volleyball League! Designed for players looking to develop and refine their skills; this semi-competitive league offers a perfect balance of challenging play and focused attack skill-building. You’ll have the opportunity to improve your spiking, teamwork, and overall game in a fun and supportive environment. Join us to elevate your volleyball skills and enjoy the game!

Rules & Guides
*Rules may be adjusted or added as needed by league administration
Intermediate Volleyball Targets:
- Some continuity in game play
- Consistent effort to: Pass; Set; Attack
- Attacking without net touches
- Setting without “lifting”
- Consistently serve successfully
Intermediate Volleyball Player:
- Have played volleyball in highschool and/or some intramurals or adult league
- Be confident at passing, setting, serving
- Evaluate their skill at 7/10 or better
League Guidelines:
- All players must abide by the BRSC Fairplay code at all times. This is a semi-competitive league but Fun, Fairness and Safety still come first
- Players should call their own violations including “lifts.”
- Plays in dispute may be resolved with a re-serve
- At least one player from each gender must be on the floor at all times. All teams are responsible for fielding a proper team and using a standard rotation.
- Matches may be played with a minimum of 4 players and at least 1 from both genders. If these criteria are not met, the game will be registered as a default. At least 4 players from a team’s registered roster must be on the floor in order to avoid a default.
- Net height will be played at the … level. TBD
- Matches will be played best of 5 sets up to 25, win by 2 with a 30 point cap.
- Spiking, Overhand serves, and jump serves are permitted
- Back row attacks must start from behind the ATTACK LINE
- Any Net Contact will result in a point and the ball going to the non-offending team. Net contact must be called by players.
- A ball that hits the celling or overhead obstruction and comes down on the opposite side of the net, the ball is deemed to be dead and the point will be awarded to the opposing team.
- The basketball nets are out of bounds.
Match Scoring:
- Matches will be played best of 5 sets. 2points are awarded for a Win and 1 point for a loss.
- Sets 1-5 will go up to 25, win by 2 with a 30 point cap.
- In cases where time expires and more than 15 points are scored by a team, then the leader at that time will be awarded the point for the set.
- It is the responsibility of each team to report their scores to the league facilitator
- A ball that contacts the ceiling or overhead obstruction on YOUR side of the net is still live and playable
- A ball that hits the celling or overhead obstruction and comes down on the opposite side of the net, the ball is deemed to be dead and the point will be awarded to the opposing team
- A ball may be played off of any part of the body during play, however INTENTIONALLY kicking the ball is not permitted, for both Safety Reasons and the support of Skill Development.
Playoffs:
- Playoffs: league members may only play for their original teams from the regular season
- Matches will be played best of 5. If the match is won before the full time is up, teams may use the balance of time for fun game play.
- The final set will be played to 25, win by 2; 30 pt cap.
- If games are tied when time runs out, NEXT POINT WINS!! (unless alternate arrangements are made by the facilitator)
- Teams will be allotted one 30 second time out during the final set of any match
- Matches may be played with a minimum of 4 players and at least 1 from both genders. If these criteria are not met, the game will be registered as a default.
- If the numbers requirement is met but the gender requirement is not, play may continue, but the opposing team will be furnished with an 11-0 lead to start in the first set.
